R. Ring have been nominated as “New Artist of the Year” via the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards. While front-woman Kelley Deal resides in Dayton, OH, front-man Mike Montgomery is a resident of nearby Dayton, KY (Greater Cincinnati area). The proximity of Mike’s locale puts them in the running. Do check out this amusing interview with R. Ring via Cincinnati’s City Beat rag.

CB: Kelley, I’m curious about your vocal approach, which is marked by this girlish, slightly affected croon that has become your trademark. How did you come to this way of singing?

KD: Gross. I have an image of Bette Davis in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? in my mind!

R. Ring Hailed By Under The Radar

Posted at 5:52 pm

R. Ring recently received a phenomenal feature via Under the Radar. Thanks so much to Frank Valish and UTR for the support!

“And one should not wait on R. Ring. Despite its members acknowledging the wait-and-see dynamic to the project, R. Ring seems to pick up steam with each successive small release… As a pair, the two tracks represent distinct sides of R. Ring, both superbly played and terrifically engaging.”

R. Ring Featured in Pitchfork’s Announcement of 20th Anniversary Reissue of The Breeders’ “Last Splash”

Posted at 7:51 am

R. Ring’s “Fallout & Fire” was featured in Pitchfork’s announcement of the 20th Anniversary reissue of The Breeders’ Last Splash. R. Ring’s Kelley Deal will join the reunited Last Splash-era Breeders to celebrate 4AD’s deluxe reissue of this wonderful album. In addition, the band will play the Deerhunter-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties and tour around the album’s release.

This is particularly exciting for Misra, as three of the Last Splash-era Breeders (Kelley, her identical twin sister Kim Deal, and drummer Jim McPherson) live right here in the label’s hometown of Dayton, OH. Spirits are high around this historic event.

Reminder: R. Ring on the road

Posted at 11:50 am

A reminder that R. Ring are on the road. The unorthodox two-piece outfit – featuring The Breeders’ Kelley Deal & Ampline’s Mike Montgomery – take a jaunt of the Midwest and the shallow South:

12/6: Bloomington, IN @ Russian Recording
12/7: Indianapolis, IN @ Radio Radio
12/8: Lexington, KY @ Green Lantern
