Jenny Toomey
Jenny Toomey, one of the central figures of the DIY movement since the late '80s, in addition to being a member of the seminal band Tsunami, ran Simple Machines (an Arlington, Virginia-based label) with bandmate Kristin Thompson. Just as importantly, Thompson and Toomey published several editions of An Introductory Mechanic's Guide to Putting Out Records, Cassettes and CDs. In 2001, Toomey took some time off and went solo for Antidote, a stellar double-record split between its recording locales of Chicago and Nashville. In October 2002, Toomey issued a collaboration with Franklin Bruno entitled Tempting.
Toomey later became the executive director of the Future of Music Coalition, whose aim is to protest the rights of the recording artist in lieu of technological advances.
