Sleeping States delivers Old vs. New EP!
London’s Sleeping States return with a digital-only five track EP, Old vs. New,
on November 18, 2008. The EP features new, revitalized versions of some older
originals along with an amazing cover of Life Without Buildings' "Liberty Feelup."
All of the songs on Old vs. New have been re-recorded in more of a band context
in the studio. Although, the lo-fi originals on the EP were already gems, the addition
of the studio and full band really allows them to shine. Old vs. New will be available
digitally on 11/18/08. Be sure to check it out!

The Low Lows, Shining Violence!!
We're extremely proud to announce the signing of Austin, Texas' The Low Lows and the release of their sophomore album Shining Violence, available digitally July 22nd, in-stores Sept.9th (pre-order)!! At the core of The Low Lows is Parker Noon (vox, guitar), with Mikey Dwyer on bass, Abram Shook on combo organs, and Jeremy Wheatley on drums.
Shining Violence, reveals a more feral, leaner balladry then the bands debut, Fire On The Bright Sky (Warm Records), a brilliant record in its own right. Gone are the feminine layers of organs, pianos and vibraphones, replaced with melodically distorted guitar and smashing, trashy drums. Perhaps inevitably (considering their residence in small-town Georgia during the recording process) primitive three-part harmony abounds, and steel guitar pervades most tracks, but these elements are incongruously trapped in an urban lo-fi noise-rock aesthetic like insects in amber. Nostalgia-free, doleful & intensely modern despite their rawness, The Low Lows are the natural product of an anachronistic environment, worried not at all about being out-of-step with its time. Songs progress in stately, off-kilter, dreamlike form, sloppy but deliberate, building to explosive, gospel-tinged, triumphal climaxes -- hook-laden, foundationed on distortion & embellished by brass.
The Low Lows' live shows continue to be their primary focus, and are raw, loud & sloppy, electric & visceral. The BBC recently called their live set “absolutely beautiful... one of our favorite sessions of the year. Marvelous.” They'll be coming to a town near you, embarking on a full U.S. tour Sept.10th - check back in with us for more details.

Centro-matic/ South San Gabriel’s Dual Hawks lands today 6/3/08!!!
We at Misra are so very excited to announce the release of Centro-matic/ South San Gabriel’s’ split double album, Dual Hawks!! Last weekend Centro-matic kicked off their first US tour in support of Dual Hawks with sold out shows in Denton and Austin Texas. The band will be hitting cities across the US through the month of June. A complete list of tour dates can be found below. If that isn’t enough for ya, we are also releasing a very special deluxe edition of Dual Hawks complete with a full color book of photography. Check out what Will Johnson from Centro-maitc has to say about the deluxe edition:
About Dual Hawks special edition - from Will Johnson
Over the last twelve years, our band has been mighty lucky to chug along in as natural way as we could have hoped. We're not particularly well known on a lot of levels, but we also haven't experienced the slippery slope resulting from premature or undeserving gains. No one ever gave us nice hotel rooms before we felt like we deserved them, and the red wine and baby carrots and various backstage luxuries didn't exactly show up too soon. Actually, they still don't show up most times. But I guess we've managed to do this thing in workman like fashion. We march and roll and fly and sail on in our own sovereign, hands-on kind of way, and continue to have a real good time doing it, growing and learning as any family might together.
Our fans have taken good care of us over all those years and we've made a phenomenal amount of friends over many, many miles. Somehow things just get a little better with every passing year, too. It feels good to be able to say that. I guess perseverance, continued inspiration and love for one another can lead to that.
We're about to release our 13th and 14th records next. Both of our bands, Centro-matic and South San Gabriel are included. The collection is called Dual Hawks. The idea of making it a double split release stemmed from the want to do something unusual but fan-friendly. In addition to that, we are assembling a limited special edition release, complete with a beautiful 30-page book full to the neck with the fruit of Matt Pence's, Julie Miller's and Mark Ray's awe-inspiring talents. Matt's phenomenal photography continues to exist as the perfect, rightful document of our bands' life. His body of work holds the most fitting timeline of images I could ever hope to have represent this chapter of our lives together. Julie is a new friend of ours, a kind and devoted fan for some time now. After finally seeing some of her stunning work last year, we instantly knew that we wanted her involved with this release. She's been very generous to contribute this endeavor. With the mix of Matt and Julie's efforts, combined with our friend, Mark Ray's always fitting and beautiful artwork, we felt like we had the right mix for this special edition release.
And so here we are. It's an involved batch of music. There's a good bit to sift through, and it's against the grain at points. It begs a chunk of patience and time from its listener. But as far as I'm concerned, that's the point of independent art. It's not always convenient. It's not always tidy and easy to categorize. That's the kind of liberty we get to enjoy as a creative group of people fully in control of our own destiny. This is our ship. Why not paint it and sail it the way we want? Most importantly we feel like it's the kind of release that's specially designed for our friends and fans that have soldiered on with us over the years. so, to the mechanics of our spiritual engine, the painters and foundation supporters of our cottage industry, the sober drivers of our emotional fuel truck, and the night owls and guards of our sentimental forest, maybe see ya' down the road! -- Will Johnson

Mobius Band Signs to MISRA
For the second time today, we are more than pleased to announce the joining of another amazing band to the MISRA Records lineup. Mobius Band has officially joined the family, and will be releasing their upcoming full legnth, Heaven, on October 2 on MISRA Records. Notorious for their obsession with the often opposing forces of pop and experimentation, Mobius Band's latest work is both thoughtful and infectiously addicitve. Heaven is available now for preorder on Mobius Band's page.
MISRA Welcomes Sleeping States
We are extremely happy to announce today that MISRA records will now be the home of England's Sleeping States. On his latest work, There The Open Spaces, Markland Starkie has yet again shown his brillance for minimal composition as a singer/songwriter. After releasing several albums on smaller UK labels, we are absolutely delighted to have him here with us in the US. There The Open Spaces will be released on September 18. In the mean time, check out the tour dates page for upcoming Sleeping States tour dates.
Will Johnson on Daytrotter
Our friends over at Daytrotter posted a nice interview with MISRA artist Will Johnson today. Click here to read the interview and to download 'Emma Jane,' a song only available on Daytrotter. And be sure to keep a look out in the near future for a split Centro-matic and South San Gabriel album from Will Johnson and MISRA records.
As always, thanks for listening.

Hallelujah the Hills' debut record out June 5
Boston's Hallelujah the Hills has officially joined the Misra family. Their debut album, Collective Psychosis Begone, will be in stores on June 5, 2007 and is available for pre-order now through our online store.
Hallelujah the Hills was born from the remains of the late, lamented Boston group The Stairs, who released two beautiful full lengths and promptly broke up. Thankfully, Stairs guitarist Ryan Walsh and drummer Eric Meyer decided to carry on and asked a few friends along for the ride: Walsh, Meyer, David Bentley (cello, guitar), Joe Marrett (bass), Elio DeLuca (synth, samples) and Brian Rutledge (trumpet) make up today's Hallelujah the Hills.
Collective Psychosis Begone is a stuning collection of songs built on the band's unique chemistry and instrumentation. Moog, cello, melodic basslines and guitar intertwine with trumpets, samples and sharp-edged vocals to create the perfect framework for the at times anthemic, at times elegiac songs. Hallelujah the Hills has promised to make 33 albums before breaking up. 32 more or not, Collective Psychosis Begone is one hell of a start.
