Monahans
In 2006, singer Greg Vanderpool and guitarist Roberto Sanchez morphed their Austin, Texas band Milton Mapes into Monahans (named after the West Texas desert oasis), steadily riding the line between indie rock and Americana. Their songs explore the spaces between stark, hazy drones, Sunday hymns and intensely rhythmic pop anthems. Influential NPR station KUTX has described the music as possessing “the skeletal darkness of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska and Brian Eno’s ambient beauty”. In 2008, Misra Records released their album Dim the Aurora. The band continued on until their final album in 2013.
Greg Vanderpool presently enjoys a successful solo career, touring and recording independently.
