OR: “SO YOU WANT TO BE SIGNED TO A LABEL”

STEP INTO OUR OFFICES…

Misra Records is rethinking the role of indie record labels in the 2020s. Gatekeepers are no longer required to deliver your music to the masses (we recommend the team at Catapult Direct, although of course if you’re reading this then you’re likely already familiar with DistroKid and CD Baby as well, among many others).

So what do you need us for? Misra proposes a radical new business arrangement for future releases:

  • First, we have to enjoy the music, feel that it is a fit for what we’re currently doing as a label, and have enough bandwidth to release it. None of this is guaranteed for submissions.

  • Second, we will no longer be offering digital distribution. If you want your music on Spotify, that’s your responsibility. We’ll do co-releases with labels that provide digital distro, though!

What are we offering, then? Through our close relationship with Hellbender Vinyl, we can provide our artists with exclusive pricing and repayment terms when pressing their records to wax.

In other words, we’ll take care of the upfront costs associated with making vinyl and also do it for cheaper, which will come in handy when it comes to recouping.

While we feel like this is a pretty generous deal, the catch is that we can’t lose money on said deal. Your part of the bargain is to sell these vinyl records to as many of your fans as possible. Unfortunately this means that we might not be the best fit for acts still building their fan base.

We won’t offer funds for any studio time (recording/mixing/mastering), music videos, marketing, radio campaigns, tour support, publicists, etc.

Do you already have a label that can provide some/all of those things, but you still want to partner with us for what we bring to the table? Great! Let’s talk!

Not on a label at the moment, but you’re OK with the arrangement that we’ve laid out? That works, too!

We can’t promise that we’ll respond to every letter - however, we do promise that we’ll try our very best.

And while there’s no accounting for poor timing (maybe we’re just too busy to work with you right now), or personal aesthetics (maybe it’s just not the direction we’re trying to go in at the moment), please note that it would be super-helpful when writing to us if you could somehow demonstrate that you have a sufficient number of fans that would like to buy your music on vinyl.

Thank you!
