Shearwater
In 1999, Okkervil River band members Jonathan Meiburg and Will Sheff founded Shearwater as an outlet for quieter songs on which they were collaborating. The band's name comes from the shearwater, a tribe of seabirds related to petrels and albatrosses. The pair exchanged songwriting ideas through email and were so pleased with the results that they decided to make their project into a permanent touring affair.
Shearwater signed to Misra, who released Everybody Makes Mistakes (2002), Winged Life (2004), Thieves (2005), and Palo Santo (2006) for the band. Shearwater then moved to Matador Records in 2007, and later even joined the Sub Pop roster in 2012. Since 2016, they’ve continued to record and perform independently.
